Detalhes da observação
Uncommon and high count. A single dowitcher Jeff Offermann and I had been watching began vocalizing (a long, somewhat Lesser Yellowlegs-like "teek!"), clarifying its identity as Long-billed. It began vocalizing because another 14 birds were flying in, all dowitchers, giving a chorus of teeks and similar pippings. On the ground, all individuals were adults and consistent with Long-billed Dowitchers. Some already were far along in their molt into winter plumage, and some had retained their bright rufous plumage through the undertail. Those closer to non-breeding plumage mostly still had rufous patches through the breast and undertail coverts, but with smooth gray breasts contrasting with pale bellies; not unlike a non-breeding Hudsonian Godwit.
