Detalhes da observação
Careful count by ones -- best I could! A truly incredible and memorable experience. Many, many birds singing; sometimes the singing was so thick that it was difficult to pick out individual voices. Singing started about 15min after the wrens' start time and continued to the end of the checklist. Birds singing right next to the creek were often perched up in plain sight; a few doing flight/song displays. At the most active period we could hear 3 in any given direction. If we stopped for a few minutes, several juveniles would emerge out of whatever patch of marsh was nearest from us and frolic nearby along the mudbank (e.g., run around, chase each other, catch crabs, do whatever else it is they do). Given the percentage of saltmarsh we covered, and the fact that we likely only detected a small fraction of juveniles and females present, I can only imagine the total population in the area!
