An adult Pacific Gull adult preening and drinking rain water from coastal rockpool. Pacific Gulls (Larus pacificus) are Australia’s largest gull, and are thinly distributed around the coast of Australia, from about Shark Bay in the west to south-eastern Queensland. There are two distinct races, the dark-eyed Larus pacificus georgii in the west and the pale-eyed Larus pacificus pacificus in the east. Pacific Gulls are much less common than the ubiquitous Silver Gull, prefer sandy shores, and do not venture far from the coast. This adult Pacific Gull was by a rain-filled rockpool on the reef platform north of Red Bluff at Kalbarri, Western Australia, preening and drinking before walking off. Elevation: 11 m. Date added to IBC: September 12, 2019.
