A close-up view of an immature male perched opening its bill, and with slow motion and stop action, shows where the tongue.....attaches to the hyoid apparatus (see author's notes).The hyoid apparatus is a forked structure made of a number of small bones and connected muscles, that wraps around the entire skull, coils around the eyes, and controls the tongue extension well beyond the tip of the bill.
