Juvenile Little Stint (foreground) with juvenile Semipalmated Sandpiper
Detalhes da observação
*First record for NFLD!* juvenile, well seen throughout the afternoon. Combination of black legs and reddish colouration to the upper parts rang the alarms on this bird. Details: Bird was more slender than a nearby juvenile SESA, but similar in size otherwise. Clearly smaller than a nearby BASA & WRSA. The primaries projected just barely beyond the tail. The scapulars & coverts had solid black centres, instead of the grey with black central line as seen on the SESA. The dark crown reached the bill thereby dividing the two superciliums. Whereas, the supercilium of the SESA connected just above the bill. And the supercilium of the LIST appeared to split into a faint branch that invaded into the crown. The white mantle lines were prominent. And the tertials had a rufous fringing. The breast side patches were surprisingly prominent - and had dark streaks within them. Although the photos are not detailed enough to show this, the feet did NOT appear to be webbed. Close looks in the field with 60x zoom Swarovski scope were attained while the bird was standing on a large rock with toes spread apart. I did not hear it vocalize.
