2 adult birds first spotted flying from the East just past 10am, then more birds appeared with some coming to feed at the shore line at the eastern end of the harbour. Up to 8 birds seen together, 4 adults and 4 1st winters, but i believe 10 is a more accurate overall count, and there could have been up to 12 birds as they were never tightly together and often hidden behind the surf. I stayed with them until 12.30pm when i needed to leave and catch a ferry from Tomakomai. Likely came with a northerly storm the previous day and stayed around for a while. No sighting reported by local birders the next day. Wide variation of coloration among adult birds with one individual bright salmon pink.
