Detalhes da observação
First record for the Middlemiss property - Small oriole (in comparison with nearby Hooded Orioles and Bullock's Orioles; and, even noticeable in flight). Deep chestnut chest, belly, and undertail coverts was striking. Head, eye, and bill were all black with the black of the head NOT extending onto the upper chest in this individual ... a nice even "head dipping" a la Baltimore Oriole. The upper back was black. The whitish wingbar in this individual was prominent as were the whitish markings in the wings. The tail was black. Basically, a classic adult male Orchard Oriole. Photographed by two observers present. Record identifying photos to be submitted to the Kern County coordinator for North American Birds. Primary observer/identifier: Bob Barnes. Other observers: Liam Huber (photos), John Newman, Linda Pittman (photos), Mauricio Schrader, and other participants in a Kern River Valley Spring Nature Festival field trip. Observed by all via personal binoculars and at least three scopes present. Viewing was excellent as this Orchard Oriole perched for extended periods of time in 2-3+ leafless portions of the tops of 25'30' tall trees lining the east side of the Middlemiss driveway at a distance of 50'-100'.
