Hen was hiding in grass and then hopped to lowest branches of a long-needle pine tree and continued clucking and making additional churl sounds.

One flushed nearby and we heard the wings. Later we came across a female and small chicks. Female was clucking, then at least three chicks flushed from only a few feet away!
