Detalhes da observação
A nearly unbelievable find! The grouse was first found this morning and then relocated this evening along the entrance road about 100m west of the Quarry Trailhead entrance. As I walked along the road towards the group supposedly watching the grouse I was looking in the bushes on both sides of the road, searching for any sign of the grouse. To my great surprise, the Ruffed Grouse was actually sitting on the concrete barrier on the side of the road less than five feet away from the group. As I got out my camera to take some photos the grouse actually walked towards me and got even closer until it was only about two feet away. Many thanks to Melissa Hafting for refinding the bird and then waiting with it until I arrived so I could find it so easily. It seems ridiculous, but Ruffed Grouse has been a bird that I've been looking for for more than five years; I've been all over B.C. and even to Ontario in my search, and I've been as close as hearing them fly away from me only a few metres away on multiple occasions, so to finally see my lifer Ruffed Grouse actually in Vancouver and in such a remarkable manner is really as special as it gets.
