Detalhes da observação
Watched and photographed these birds most of the morning. There was one male, sometimes courting the female, and a lone male that was not welcomed by the paired male. When I arrive the pair was sitting on the far bank in the shade but began feeding about 10 minutes latter and 20 minutes or more latter swam towards me upriver and got on a rock where I couldn't see them from my position on the shoreline. I thought they would work downriver but they didn't so I walked up to the shoulder of the highway and found them on a rock. I took and chance and walked closer and closer then sat down and photographed them. They were not alarmed and even slept for about 10 minutes before preening. In the mean time a male that floated by earlier flew back, landed in the river and got on a rock just below the pair. He didn't stay long. Perhaps these birds flew over from the Seattle waterfront where they see people constantly.
