Detalhes da observação
No definitive visual sightings during the survey, but heard clear, descending "pew" calls three times, presumably overhead; never able to locate the vocalist(s). Heard over the start point at 0854. Heard and recorded at least 1, apparently in flight at the photo point, at 1035. At 1223, while ca 100 m below the rocky draw, I heard more soft "pew" calls from MOBL apparently in the air. At ca 1405 I had an interesting sighting that might have been a bluebird. It was a long-winged passerine, probably smaller than AMRO (tiny in comparison to nearby CORA) seen flying apparently alongside and then above coal cars within ca 5 cars of the rear of a westbound train. It was almost keeping up with the train, which was probably going roughly 30-45 mph; the bird then turned E or SE after some length of time in the same order of magnitude as 1 minute, and shortly after the train passed it landed on one of the RR track rails. Could not get a great sense of color, but it was grayish or lighter, definitely not pure white, or black like a blackbird or EUST. Shape suggested bluebird; I wondered if the train was flushing insects. Tried for a distant photo but lost sight of it.
