Detalhes da observação
Pishing brought up a group of three birds about 50 m downslope: an American Redstart, Common Yellowthroat and a sparrow. One bird was calling, a repeated "chup", not as harsh as Common Yellowthroat, but reminiscent of Dark-eyed Junco. Moved to a different vantage point and pished again. This time the sparrow flew directly upslope to me, landing about 15 ft away on top of a shrub. Identified as a Lincoln's Sparrow by buffy breast with fine dark streaking and small central breast spot, gray face with reddish-brown crown stripe and eyestripe, very buffy malar. Know this species well, as it comes to our feeders in So. California. Distinguished from juvenile Song Sparrow by buffy malar and buffier breast, different call note.
