Shrike #2
Detalhes da observação
I have updated the details on this observation with a change from Loggerhead to Northern Shrike. ...Original posting:These two shrikes were seen 1-2 miles apart. When I saw the first shrike, I thought it looked more like a Northern Shrike with the thinner black eyeline, slender body, and strong bill hook. Loggerhead Shrike is the expected shrike. I am not familiar with the juvenile and immature shrikes. After checking, I'm assuming that these are juvenile Loggerheads. ...Since the original posting, I have sent the photos to one of the Oregon county reviewers. This was the response: "I would said (say) that both birds are juvenile Northern Shrikes because of the barring on the breast, the pale ear patch, the white eye ring/arc over the eye, and the longer hooked bill. The first bird appears to have a white rump which is an ID mark for Northern Shrike." ...Please contact me if further discussion is needed.
