Detalhes da observação
Continuing fantastic find by Jack! First heard it at 6:30 am singing repeatedly & giving calls around here: (32.1095593, -104.4703084). Song sounded a lot like a REVI—but more peppy, more broken & less consistent. Call I heard was like the harsh “tchway” call of a REVI, but higher in pitch. Song recorded. Lost it, but then heard it again at 7:00 very near the pond in the Soapberry here: (32.1092710, -104.4718940), seen only briefly again before it flew quite far and seemed to sing on and off from SW of the pond and off of Rattlesnake Springs property—quite distant but still detectable from the pond area coming from around here: (32.1085568, -104.4739760). I birded other areas of the trap for a while & returned to that area & it was back where it was originally this morning, singing intermittently with a mixed flock & allowed for good views & photos & continued to sing for many minutes intermittently, even moving very close to the gravel road at one point. At times it was loosely associating with 2 WIWAs & a YBCH. Appeared superficially like a REVI, but a more tropical flavor of one—with much longer bill, perhaps a bit larger overall, very pretty bright yellow UTCs & flanks when seen in good light, less contrasting look throughout head. Lifer!
