Brown Parrotbills on Jummar (Yushania anceps) - seen feeding on tender parts or on insects inside (not sure)
Detalhes da observação
We first observed the Brown Parrotbill on the evening of 21st May 2024. (https://ebird.org/checklist/S176494234) We also verified that it was indeed a Brown Parrotbill and not some immature or juvenile morph of the Great Parrotbill. Subsequent to the first sighting we observed the Brown Parrotbill (small flocks of 2 -3 to upto 8 individuals) multiple times. Their habits were easy to pick up. The loved a certain patch of Jummar Bamboo (Yushania anceps) and we just had to wait for them to show up around there. And sure enough our waits were always rewarded. In contrast the Great Parrotbill was more elusive and was rarely calling. We also familiarized our selves to the calls of the Brown Parrotbill and discovered that their calls were overtly like those of the Great Parrotbill but less vibrant and more subdued and not as far carrying. We first observed a flock of 4 birds first moving through bamboo understory and feeding of the Bamboo by stripping the bark and eating something (not sure insects inside the bamboo or the tender part of the stem). Listening carefully we also heard the bamboo being stripped. Later the same flock migrated to a maple tree and with reapid frequency were dismembering maples leaves from the stem. For a while it rained maple leaves. The Brown Parrotbill don't move particularly fast and seem to like to spend time in one area so it made observing them easy once we spotted them. The Parrotbills also seemed to be accompanied by Rufous Sibia, Chestnut-crownedlaughingthrush and Chestnut-tailed Minla. Good ahead if we sae any of these other species together we looked out for the Brown Parrotbills and were generally rewarded.
