Detalhes da observação
Wanting better looks, and much better photos, than we’d had the previous afternoon (see CHECKLIST S160981291), we again searched the “usual” locations. Our 4th stop was Violet Andrews Park, and well east of the beach access by the parking lot, we relocated the Bar-tailed feeding pretty far out on isolated sandbars (the tide was way out), among a group of 4-5 Marbled Godwits, here: (27.8699914, -97.3178641). We got excellent looks and many excellent photos, and it was still feeding there when we left. The Bar-tailed was noticeably grayer than Marbled dorsally (as opposed to buffy), and aside from a gray upper-breast, it was white ventrally (again, not buffy). Also, the blackish markings on the scapulars and tertials were clearly oriented ALONG the shaft of each feather, giving the bird a “striped” look (instead of being oriented ACROSS the feather axis and presenting a more “checkered” look).
