Detalhes da observação
Crows were on the ground in two parking lots, the ground of the grass field behind the Marriott, in treetops in multiple lots, on utility cables on both sides of Newtown Road and flying overhead. (The crows were NOT on 7 rooftops like Sunday. Sunday’s quantifications included 1,200 crows on 7 rooftops.) By leaving the epicenter (LOL!) today, and parking a block (SW) away (at Calvary Presbyterian Church) - I could see crows leaving and flying east - while new crows flew over from the west - by the 100s - 40 minutes before sunrise. - 150 on the ground in Denny’s & NavFed Credit Union parking lots. (Counted 113 in photo of Denny’s parking lot.) - 250 in grass field behind Marriott - 200 on utility cables on both sides of Newtown Road - 1,100 in treetops on NFCU, Marriott and Cross Roads Center. 12 of NFCU’s trees had crows. I did not count the other trees. - 200 flying - - - - - 1,900 TOTAL - not including… hundreds (?) heard on Bangor Ave at Kempsville Rd. Based on vocalizations, I estimate 3/4 were Fish Crows and 1/4 were American Crows. To check the overall extent, I checked east (none across Newtown Road at Days Inn), north (none in the immediate block north of I-264) and south west (on Bangor Ave). On Bangor Ave at Kempsville Rd, I heard…hundreds (?) from the darkness in the tall, tall trees. None were at Lucas and Adderly street either. 3,000+ crows here 4 days ago: https://ebird.org/checklist/S153798632 2021 observations at another of their nearby night roosts (on Hicks Ave): https://ebird.org/checklist/S78529530
