Detalhes da observação
Continuing albatross found by a commercial fisherman on June 5th. We relocated the albatross a little more than four miles southeast of the June 5th sighting at the approx. coordinates: 33.59789, -118.18664. Large bird (double the size of a Western Gull), mostly dark brown head, front of neck slightly less dark brown, brown face with a white “arc” under dark brown eye (arc widest at back end of eye), a thin messy border of whitish coloring on face immediately surrounding the bill, prominent pale pink bill with the last quarter of the bill in a shade of cream-baby blue, the extreme tip was slightly dark (not sure if true bill color or soiled from food, etc.), medium brown body with some paler brown feathers on the wings, the right wing’s feathers were considerably more worn/damaged than the left wing, the medium brown tail also had a few lighter brown feathers, the undertail coverts were medium brown. The legs appeared dark gray and the right one had a silver metal band. Band was traced to Torishima Island (an island off of Japan). The albatross was banded on Feb. 29, 2020 as a nestling. Photos.
