NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 11. Bulk reel: 77 Cloudy, fair. 203 tape. a) Calls by a perched bird. Quality: 1-2. Level: +3. Before the sitting bird started to call, a flying bird was calling in the area. It was after I whistled an imitation after the flying bird that the perched bird began to call. It subsequently flew off and the two birds, perhaps a pair, flew around +/- together; whether just foraging, or in courtship, is not clear, for I whistled imitations of the calls and that may have had some influence. The birds obviously reacted some to my imitations and the normal call was frequently amended with a "growl sound" at end and at times only the last figure and the "growl" were repeated. Also the birds chased each other (or one of them chased the other) and at times almost made contact and at that moment a peculiar resonant, nasal rattle was produced (only one successfully recorded and it is repeated two times in the filtered copy and then the original recording is added at end). b) Calls by flying birds, including some different sounds, especially a "resonant rattle." Quality: 3. Level: +3. All of b) except last, which is part of the original recording, is filt. 300/3.5 kHz which is part of the original recording.
