Detalhes da observação
Estimate of massive flock flying south. An “improbability”of shearwaters. Reanalyzed the video order to account for rate. Figuring that 60 birds cross the screen every 1.5 seconds, approximately 72,000 birds would have been the number "observed" over the course of the 30 minutes we were on the ocean side and with the flock. In all likelihood, this is a conservative number as there were a many birds on the water at various points on the ocean. The flock was streaming when we arrived, and going just as strong when we left. In all, there could have easily been two or three times this many birds or more, which is consistent with large concentrations of SOSH this time of year. Open to feedback about numbers as this is a best guess approximation.
