Detalhes da observação
First detected by sputtering, “jimp, jimp, jimp” calls that recall Song Sparrow call, but more clear. I did briefly use playback to get the bird to come closer to capture a recording. The bird came in and began working though low tangles and brush to investigate the playback. I was able to see the small, compact wren pop in and out of view as it moved effortlessly through toppled tree branches and debris. I noted the tiny, cocked tail and overall light brown tone to the bird. The head was slightly gray, and I observed white spots “sprinkled” across the nape and back. Winter Wrens cannot reliably be told apart from Pacific based on appearance since there is overlap of traits among birds; the overall plumage scored well for Winter over Pacific, but the calls are considered diagnostic.
