An apparent juvenile Lazuli Bunting photographed by Curtis A. Marantz on 15 October 2022 at the northeast end of Shasta Drive, Desert Center, Riverside County, California. This bird was quite likely the same individual that was initially found on 11 October 2022 along the north side of the mobile home park, where again seen by Daniels today.
Detalhes da observação
After hearing "bic" calls, I saw a juvenile bunting in scrub off the northeast corner of the lake and Daniels saw the same or another on the north side of the mobile home park; I assume this bird was a continuing individual from earlier in the week. This was a small, sparrow-like bird, with a rounded head, a plump body, a medium-length tail and a short, stout bill. I did mansbg4e to get some mediocre photos of this bird, but my views of it were not great. I nevertheless noted that the head was a cold, grayish-brown without much pattern to the face, that the back and wings were a medium to dark brown, that there were two whitish wingbars that were narrow but well-defined, and that the throat and belly were whitish, and thus contrasting with a peach-colored band across the upper breast. I also noted some retained streaking at the sides and apparently also across the center of the breast.
