Detalhes da observação
Dull plumage, so first cycle bird. First with a Common Loon. - larger, pale bill, upturned gonys, held head up at angle, bump on forehead, pale area on neck sides to side of nape, pale above eye. Offshore enough that very unlikely that it can be seen from shore unless steady calm weather. Many photos were taken, mine quite bad. Description sent to CBRC: The loon was first spotted in the presence of a Common Loon, and it was seen both together and apart from that bird. It frequently dove, often being down between 15-30 seconds and resurfacing for a similar amount of time. Multiple experienced birders watched the bird for several minutes, and many good photos were acquired. It was a chunky loon, significantly larger and bulkier than a nearby Common Loon. It's bill was distinctly upturned, and it's head was very blocky. The bill, though still a little on the dark side for Yellow-billed Loon, was very large and had a distinct pale yellowish-white color. The head was paler brown than the nearby Common.
