Detalhes da observação
Flew in from the northeast, almost directly over me, at 8:10 a.m. Landed near the mudflat beyond the spit on the south (left) end of the island. Foraged with a slow, deliberate, deep probing motion. It flushed several times with the other shorebirds when the Cooper's Hawk would swoop in. In flight it had no distinct white markings on the upper wings and upper tail and its gray legs and feet extended beyond the tail. The underside of the wing was a warm cinnamon color without any distinct markings. While foraging it looked to be about three times the size of the nearby killdeer. The topside was brown with speckles and the underside was a warm buff color. The bill was very long and bicolor with the light part nearer the face and the dark part nearer the tip. At 9:00 a.m. it flushed again and flew deeper into the marsh where it was obstructed from view.
