Detalhes da observação
I spent the whole day birding on a golf cart. Amanpulo Resort has built many, sand paths for golf carts all over Pamalican island, which allowed me easy access to practically all parts of the 2-1/2 km long island. For the past 40+ years, Amanpulo Resort has preserved the island and its forest and wildlife, and the birds have become friendly and used to people without being harassed. Dozens of Philippine Collared Doves are readily seen, 2-4 at a time, foraging on or near the golf cart paths or perched on coconut trees along the beaches. The first bird I saw when I stepped out of our villa was a PCD foraging on the entrance path 10 meters away. 60 PCDs is actually a conservative number. Notably, there are no Spotted Doves, Zebra Doves, or Red Turtle Doves on the island. Pamalican is the only island I have seen where PCDs are the dominant dove and have little competition.
