Detalhes da observação
Somewhat poor recording obtained. Double-note flight calls can be heard just past the 1 second mark of the attached, cropped recording. Heard twice giving flight calls. Somewhere between a House Sparrow and a Barn Swallow. The behavior that I observed was also consistent with Sprague’s Pipit. I’m fairly sure that I flushed the bird, as it started calling when I was walking up to an area with short grass and I could tell it was somewhat close and got both higher and further away from me as it flew. In fact, my first encounter with the bird was closer and I heard it louder. I was not able to get a recording though because it happened so fast. Not too long after, I heard it flying over again and was able to quickly get my phone out and make a recording, though again, the bird had already gotten further away by the time I made the recording. I am 100% certain of the ID. I am very familiar with the species in Texas on its wintering grounds. Evidently rare here in Wyoming.
