Detalhes da observação
MEGA!!! First photographic voucher for Costa Rica, catalog number MNCR-Z7837 in Natural History section of the National Museum of Costa Rica. The bird was first heard 600 meters after the right turn off the main road that connects Caño Negro to Los Chiles. The place is (was) a lumber farm known as Ecodirecta on the road toward Llano Alegre. Habitat is known as Marillal, a type of thick wetland covered with big spiny wooden bushes on one side of the road and a Acacia mangium plantation on the other side. After hearing the bird we found it calling in a small Acacia tree 30 meters inside the road. The bird was barely 20 meters above ground in the center of a small Acacia tree growing in a muddy spot. It was a male based on the white ventral spots. The bird was not afraid of our presence. We were just discussing about this bird and other potential rarities of this great habitat as we drive this road and that was the reason to stop by and for our great surprise it was almost the first bird we heard in that stop. The call was loud and clear. It was an amazing struck of luck. That same night I called Kevin Easley that happens to be in the area and he came right away. He got pictures as well. It was a Lifer for the three of us.
