Calls by the 2nd juvenile while trapped between a block wall and picket fence adjacent to the garden. Not pictured. The parents were in the nearby red pine plantation.

Detalhes da observação

While I was in the garden, a small bird was seen struggling on the lawn nearby and heading in the worst possible direction, away from cover and exposed to the full heat of the sun. Slowly realized it must be the young of the calling Hermit Thrushes I had heard earlier in the day.The tiny rufous tail, yellow mouths and gape flanges and strong legs strengthened the ID. A 2nd juvenile was discovered trapped in between a short block wall and the garden picket fence. Decided to get them to safety, so I moved them back in the shade of the red pine plantation where the adults were calling. The juveniles alarm calls on being picked up were certainly alarming (see recording) but they soon calmed down. After recording the adults calls I let them be. If any stray cats were around, the young would have been easy pickings for that invasive species.
