Detalhes da observação
We stood vigil at the blind and eventually spotted this bird standing in the open edge of the cattail bed to our east-northeast. It was a slender and small wading bird about one-half or a bit more the size of a Green Heron. The bird was facing us and presented a light yellow-buff vertical line among the grass and cattails. There were vague and blurry yellow-buff stripes on the underparts, a dark or blackish crown, and pale areas on the wing coverts. Soon after spotting the bird, it flew south, circling in to land about 100 meters south of us along a narrow patch of cattails along the shore. In flight, I could see a small heron with a dark crown, buffy orange-yellow face, bold yellow-buff patches across the upper wing, which was otherwise dark, a black back with thin white lines, and pale orangish-yellow bill. After that quick study, I attempted photographs, Lance and Margaret already on it and obtaining great images.
