Detalhes da observação
Now here is one I totally agree is rare. It totally surprised me. It must have been blown down by the recent crazy winds. It was sitting out in the wide open by the south pond just like the Double-crested Cormorants usually do when they hang out here. At first I thought "what the heck is a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron doing here and sitting out in the wide open? I was never able to get real close to look, but look at some of the pictures I did get of it. The white line above the eye, the bill being dull yellowish with a dark culmen, the white on the throat, and the fairly strong black malar streak that extends from near the bill to well down the side of the neck all seem to point towards this being an American Bittern versus an immature black-crowned Night Heron. Let me know if I am wrong.
