NOTES: (Temp: 70s F. Copy Recorder: Studer - Studer) BNA: The Typical Song ("sweet-sweet-te-te-te--tt-tt-t-t-t") is heard. CZ 17/06/2004. [First part is Pheucticus melanocephalus with no vocalizations by the sparrow, but most of the rest of this is typical song by the sparrow (many of them overlapping grosbeak songs). The second part begins with a decapitated "upslurred" trill (0:27) of BNA, followed by two "downslurred" trills (0:33, 0:41) and two "coupled" songs (0:38, 0:45). The third part also has two "coupled" song 0:53, 1:01) and a "downslurred" trill (0:58). I am uncertain if anything in the fourth part was given by this species, but if so, the calls are of a type not descriibed in BNA account; a sharp call at 1:16 sounds more like this species. Another "upslurred" trill in the fith part (1:26) is followed by a "downslurred" trill (1:32). The sixth part appears to have only a song by Thryomanes bewickii, the seventh, more wren songs but also one "coupled" song by the sparrow at1:52. I believe that both songs in the last part were given by Thryomanes bewickii. Quality changed from 3-2 to 2-3 (maybe 2 in places) - CAM - 6 January 2005]. Habitat: Desert.
