Detalhes da observação
On arrival at the pier I immediately noticed a large grey-brown bird flying away from the pier. I took some hasty photos of the back of the bird then watched in with binoculars as it disappeared. As it was flying directly away I couldn't get a good look at the shape of the bird. I did turn its head at one stage and I got a brief look at the head and bill which looked odd-shaped. At the time I was baffled as to what it was but on examining the poor image later i realised that the wing pattern is diagnostic and unmistakable for Beach Stone-curlew. Generally uncommon in the Brisbane area and a first eBird record for Shorncliffe.
