Detalhes da observação
***inland mega, presumably present since Thursday's huge nor'easter. Spent majority of the time sitting on the Upper Lake, flew a few short distances when a boater drifted too close and a bit more when a gull gave it a buzz. Initial views on the water were of an all dark small tubenose. Overall color was a very dark gray/brown (not quite black). Head slightly paler. Paler patch on the flanks, although not any white wrapping around. Couldn't make out much on the short flights but held down the shutter on the longer one. Long wings, paler carpal patches extended pretty much to leading edge, very narrow white rump with minimal wrapping to underside. Tail appeared clearly forked at some angles, less so at others. No foot projection visible at any time. Flight didn't strike me as typical for a Leach's but a calm lake is not the open ocean.
