Observasjonsdetaljer
I waffled on this bird for a while, until I could get photos from camera to computer. In the field, moderately broad buff back barring could be seen as well as no red on nape. The face pattern molt appeared more advanced than I'd have expected for YBSA, though. Photos show that nearly all head feathers are in juvenile state (pale freckling along dark lines, crown feather fluffy with some freckling). I was concerned about the oddly placed red on head (it appears to be where dark frame would later appear, but was actually more within throat than this single photo would suggest). Looking through photos in Macauley from east coast during last week of September shows a number of juvs with similar dark-marked heads, looking adult like, but freckled and thus juv feathers. More importantly, several photos show somewhat random patches of red on throat, which was truly my main concern with this bird. This bird's molt score would be somewhere around 4 on a scale determined by Jesse Barry some years ago. This would be odd for RN Sap at this date, but rather typical for YB Sap.
