Observasjonsdetaljer
captured in net lanes; banded and photographed by Allen Spaulding. This was the first California record, and was accepted by CBRC at that time. The more recent CBRC book says that the Committee did not reach consensus on which subspecies was involved; "Arctic Warbler," as it existed in the 1990s, has since been split into 3 species (sensu AOU 2014). The 3 species are primarily distinguished by vocalizations. While the measurements of the BSOL bird were consistent with P. borealis, no vocalizations were heard. The CBRC currently considers this accepted for the State list as Arctic/Kamchatka Leaf Warbler Phylloscopus borealis/examinandus. It is included in the CBRC total of accepted California species. eBird does not accept "slash" entries as included in any totals. Thus, to be consistent with the CBRC acceptance of this record, it remains Arctic Warbler in eBird, with the proviso that some CBRC members did not consider P. examinandus (for which there is an Alaska record) unequivocally eliminated. Many current and former CBRC members consider this to be P. borealis without significant concern, as the probabilities are very high on geographic grounds. There are several additional records of presumed Arctic Warblers in California and in Baja California; P. borealis breeds in western Alaska.
