Observasjonsdetaljer
***MEGA. First record for ABA. Critically endangered according to IUCN. The closest records to the US are from Costa Rica in the mid-2010s and as recently as August 1st. Essentially, the range is restricted to the Galapagos Islands and the north Humboldt current, further adding to these records, which are significant. Lisa Hug's 7th Albatross for Bodega Bay Pelagic!!! Extremely large albatross was first observed behind the boat at a long range. Immediately obvious was its large, protruding white head. As the bird moved closer, all dark mantle and underwings noticed — then yellow bill. Confirming identification as Waved Albatross. Apparently, AHY Waved Albatross — long, massive yellow bill, dark underwings, blueish-toned feet, bold white head. Large proportions relative to Black-footed Albatross nearby. Many more details and spectacular photos to come. An absolutely fantastic way to see such an incredible bird.
