Observasjonsdetaljer
The Belted Kingfisher I first observed was on a branch overhanging the river. As so often happens, when I drew parallel to it, it dropped from the branch and flew upriver ahead of me. This repeated a couple of times. Eventually I lost track of it. When I peeked into a little cover where I had seen a family of Wood Ducks last year and a single one today, the kingfisher arrived noisily just before I was about to leave. It was followed a few minutes later by what seemed to be its mate, who disappeared behind a mass of vines along the steep bank near a small culvert. I waited several minutes for the second kingfisher to reappear, but it did not. My view of the first kingfisher was often partially obscured by the leaves of a downed tree when the current gently shifted my position.
