Known area, but I think we are the first to find and document a nest here this year. Male with no white around eye, yellow extending down breast and onto belly. Singing A and B songs nearly constantly near where the east and west trails diverge. (To me his songs sounds the same as northern parula, which was also singing in this area.) We saw him make several prey deliveries (mostly caterpillars but also one butterflie/moth) to a nest. Twice he took out a fecal sac. The female attending this nest is a Northern parula, and she was also bringing food, and taking fecal sacs. She would also briefly brood the presumed nestlings before leaving to continue foraging. The nest is about 25 feet high in an live oak tree, directly over the east side of the main trail, right across from a large dark grey bolder with a small cedar growing right next to it, before the trails diverge and before the 2nd stream crossing (roughly 29.8190602, -99.5800667 - my phone struggles with internet here so this might not be exact) The nest can be viewed from the trail easily. This was such an amazing experience! We started out hearing a parula, which ended up being a Northern. Then we could hear a second parula, and thought it could be the tropical so we tracked it down. Initial views were of a distant parula flying across the trail and foraging from a sycamore on the other side of the stream. This was the first visual we had confirming the tropical. It then flew DIRECTLY AT US and straight to the nest practically over our heads, only about 20 feet away from us where we were standing on the main trail. Wow! What an incredible head-on view and then he was so close- and visiting a nest!! So awesome!! Don will add photos
