Observasjonsdetaljer
Very rare but becoming increasingly more expected in the east. Will add photos. Large adult gull, a touch smaller than surrounding Herring Gulls. The mantle was about two shades darker gray than the surrounding Herring Gulls, and clearly paler than the adult LBBG that was about two scope field’s away and easily compatible. The leg was a mixture of dull pink and gray, while below the tibiotarsal joint the legs were dull yellow, brightest on the “shins” mixed with dull pink. This mixed leg color is pretty normal for these “Appledore Gulls”. Often they have brighter yellow legs than this individual with pink webbing between the toes but it’s all over the map. I didn’t see the webbing because a trash truck came along and blocked the birds from me as I was walking to try to see this bird better, then the flock flushed and neither the Appledore nor the adult LBBG returned.
