Observasjonsdetaljer
An adult in non-breeding plumage. Breeding birds have a black bill. A recent taxonomic revision splits the former Intermediate Egret (Ardea intermedia) into three species. 1. Yellow-billed Egret (Ardea brachyrhyncha) of Africa. 2. Medium Egret (Ardea intermedia) in South, Southeast, and East Asia -- This bird. 3. Plumed Egret (Ardea plumifera) of Australasia. Having seen all three, my life list gets what are known as "armchair ticks" where you add new species without actually having to go birding. They are truly intermediate in that they are larger than Cattle Egret but smaller than Great Egret. Note the mandibular feathering forming a "jowl." Formerly included in the genus "Egretta."
