Horrible quality but still impressed a phone can get these despite wind and handling noise (and talking and camera shutters). Edited these from two long voice memos I had running while the bird was working the brush. Normalized to -3dB and applied 500 Hz low pass filter.
Observasjonsdetaljer
Found this morning (9:20AM) by Derek Lovitch and was seen once more (1:15PM) in the same area, near the pavilion (43.066872, -70.691505)*. It was also seen once (12:10PM) from the (unmarked) trails to the east of that pin. Definitely a tough bird to track down with all the dense brush in the area. There is one prior record of this species in Maine: 31 Dec 1966 - mid Feb 1967 in Bar Harbor, but it has not yet been reviewed by the ME-BRC. This record was included in Vickery’s Birds of Maine, noting “At the time it was seen, this species was considered a subspecies of Rufous-sided Towhee; despite that, it was photographed by many, including D. Dorr, who hosted the towhee.” The ME-BRC has not been able to locate any of those photos, so this record has been in limbo. *updated coordinates
