Observasjonsdetaljer
Juveniles and adults. Careful but conservative count of individuals, enumerated one by one on a single counting sweep during clear weather break nearing end of checklist. Afterwards, reviewed many flock photos to ensure field count was accurate (for example, see photo of 59 individuals from the north-most flat; high res. available). New flocks of 30 or more were dropping in from high above during the rain bands, joining the already large shorebird flocks on the flats. Most were mixed with Pects and a few Semi Sands. Several juvs were on the very strong rufous side of the spectrum. Adults showed various stages of molt, from birds with much worn remnants of alternate plumage to birds well molted into basic plumage. A number of subflocks lifted and climbed high in the last and longest band of clear sky, followed very soon after by a heavy downpour. Photos.
