Checked the calendar this morning and was surprised to see that IT'S SORATEMBER BABY WOOOO! Small rail with oversized greenish-yellow feet and legs; short, stubby yellow bill; buffy breast and face lacking black and gray, suggesting a juvenile bird. Seen standing on the north edge of the large mosquito ditch south of Squassux Marina, observing yours truly. Took off into the grasses after about a minute. This is my first time seeing one this far south on the river in what is generally a pretty classic saltmarsh environment, so I guess I will have to broaden the scope of my future efforts to find this species away from the more brackish and freshwater areas that have so far been reliable.
