NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 15. Bulk reel: 41; Extra cut length: 3:34 B Weather: Fair. When I first started working with this owl, it responded several times to playback by giving the "bother" call (excited). Unfortunately I didn't succeed in recording any of this. Then after repeated playback, the bird started the "short hoot song." This is recorded @ intervals. The bird continued this song for a much longer time than it usually does and then changed suddenly to its normal song, instead of gradually as usually does. Its song gradually increased in volume to one much higher. Then I lowered recording gain. Quality: 1. Level: +5. Then recorded slightly "off focus." Quality: 1. Level: +5. Then recorded back "on focus" again. Quality: 1. Level: +5. This bird was collected but was lost to rats before prepared, so sex was not determined but I believe it was a male. In appearance it was a typical crucigerus.
