parent shading at least 3 eggs; its mouth was held open except for periodic momentary snaps shut, and mouth interior looked wet and glistening
Observasjonsdetaljer
2 days before, we unwittingly approached this nest located on an area of sparsely vegetated dried mud that appears to be the result of some earth-moving project earlier in the season when we first became aware of the adult, it circled around on the ground to our right flank and then lowered its body to a nesting position and swiped side to side over the ground as if to pantomime 'hey giant oaf I've got a nest here on the ground so watch where you step!', then circled around to the our left flank and stood next to what appeared to be 2 eggs, and at that point we skedaddled this time on return trip we were prepared with scope so didn't disturb the proud parents who at one point switched places for incubation duty of what now looks like 3 eggs update: checked back on the 4th of July but couldn't see any evidence of nest, there have been 2 rains recently that could have impacted this muddy site and also we noticed canine tracks crossing the area, but hopefully the chicks fledged
