An adult male was the first and only bird I saw on the aqueduct when I stopped (the male Common soon surfaced next to it). Much more black toward the waterline than the Common showed, and diagnostic facial crescent on puffy, peaked blackish-purple head, along with short bill with concave culmen made ID instantaneous.
