Observasjonsdetaljer
First seen by Jill McPhie about 6 days ago, and reported locally as a buffy sparrow. Then Julie Bauer got photos yesterday, and Cameron Eckert confirmed the ID. Lot of birders enjoyed the Bobo today. A first fully-documented Yukon record. When we arrived in the junction at about 10am, the Bobo had already been seen, and I first saw it drop into a bush beside Jill's house. It was a chunky passerine, indeed like a large sparrow, overall quite buffy-yellow, and surprisingly bright when viewed head-on. Muted streaks along the side of the breast darkened towards the flanks; it's nape was a puffed-out sandy-buff suggestive of a male's white ruff; back was buffy with short blackish streaks; all wing feathers (primaries, coverts, tertials) were blackish with bold white edges - making for quite a boldly bright pattern; tail was muted dark brown with paler edges, and tail feathers were quite pointed; bill was conical pink with dark top edge; face was overall yellowish-buff with dark eyeline behind the eye, pale whitish lore, thin whitish eye-ring, buffy-yellow supercilium; darker brown lateral crown stripes; and buffy-white centre crown stripe. Quite a little stunner on a dark November morning.
