Observasjonsdetaljer
Continuing bird, still very very interesting. Present almost continuously for the duration of my visit. It kept to the dead wood tangle on the slope, and did not visit the (visible) feeders. It called regularly, and I was able to get some good recordings, but I did not attempt to digibin it (John Groves got some photos). Over all, a medium-sized hummingbird with a fairly long, slightly decurved bill, with black maxilla and almost entirely red mandible, with dark just at the very tip. The underparts were completely white, from the chin through the under tail coverts, though the flanks were mottled lightly with iridescent green. The crown was iridescent turquoise when it caught the light just right. The cheeks were little iridescent greenish. The back was greenish-bronze, looking quite green in the low morning light, but then more bronze as the sun rose, contrasting some with the greener crown and nape. The tail was also greenish-bronze, without mush contrast with the back; the tail was also slightly botched, with pale fringes to R4-6. The wing tips reached the tips of the rectricies. The calls (recorded) were quite different from any of the other hummingbirds present.
