Bird B is my original Allen's. It has no iridescent side feathers and a fairly large patch on its central throat. Lancelate tail feathers, narrow R5 and green back, see diagnostic photo 15 Dec, S98935894. Today I managed another photo of bird B tail feathers and again note the very narrow R5 characteristic of an Allen's. Bird A has iridescent gorget feathers on the sides of its throat and a small number of darker feathers on the central throat. Lancelate tail feathers, narrow R5 and green back, see diagnostic photo 20 Dec, S99191485. Audio Stats 22 audio recordings. BirdNET 100% er ID's: 16 Allen's 2 Rufous 3 Anna's Of the many recordings, five were captured simultaneously on my recorder and my Android using Merlin. Of the five, Merlin ID'd all as Allen's while BirdNET ID'd four as Allen's 100% and one as 100% Allens / 100% Rufous. Cannot be 100% both! WOOHOO.... From Sheri L. Williamson: Looks like you hit the jackpot! I concur that you've got TWO juvenile male Allen's. Besides the widths and shapes of the rectrices (conveniently entirely adult in B), the advanced primary molt of both birds is also more consistent with juvenile Allen's than juvenile Rufous. Congratulations! Sheri L. Williamson, Director/Naturalist Southeastern Arizona Bird Observatory Bisbee, Arizona
