Observasjonsdetaljer
♦️Rare!♦️ I heard a finch singing, which sounded similar to Cassin’s but didn’t have the right sound from my experience with CAFI in western MT. I tracked it down along the edge of the meadow and it immediately struck me as a Purple Finch! Much richer solid reds all over the face and throat compared to the relatively dilute face and throat of CAFI. Rump was much richer than CAFI. “Eastern” subspecies due to the cleaner and paler flanks, and paler back than adult male “western” subspecies which would have heavy and blurry chocolatey-raspberry streaks all down the flanks. “Eastern” ssp breeds across the Canadian boreal forest to the Rockies with lots of birds around Calgary AB, almost down to the border!
